Even if I conceded [I don't] that "trend identification is not terribly difficult" , to 'find stocks in the middle of a strong trend is rather tougher.

We were in the middle [or somewhat before the middle, if the trend continues] of a strong upturn in 1991, but we couldn't know [nor act upon] that till now. I thought it appropriate to point that out to TC, since he teaches philosophy :)

Re short-term wiggles vs. long-term wiggles, I think it depends on the value of the game -- it is easy to do well at short-term calls if right ones count for more than wrong ones.
