The thread lives!! Hello SS, The only news I saw come out was this piece yesterday. Volume has been heavy all week but today I think was the second or third heaviest traded day NWK has had in a year and a half. There are a lot of takeovers going on in this sector and the fundamentals make this one look attractive to me. Time will tell :-) MarkC

M2 PRESSWIRE-27 May 1999-N.E.T.: IP QoS parameters improve multiservice network performance with N.E.T.'s LAN/WAN Exchange Edge Router (C)1994-99 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Fremont, Calif. -- N.E.T. (NYSE: NWK) today announced one of the industry's most sophisticated IP multiservice applications featuring Quality of Service (QoS) parameters engineered for converged IP, voice and video traffic. The newest software release for the N.E.T.(tm) LAN/WAN Exchange(tm) (LWX) Edge Router offers QoS capabilities to improve traffic performance as a result of advanced congestion management, filtering and shaping, and link efficiencies. The LWX Edge Router is an internal feature module for the N.E.T. Promina(R) 800 Series Multiservice Access Platform.

The LWX Edge Router software code is based on the industry-leading Cisco IOS software code. N.E.T. is one of a few vendors that have full license rights to Cisco's IOS code in use on a successful multiservice platform. N.E.T. ports the code over to its own router hardware module that fits in an internal slot in the Promina 800 Series platforms, which can integrate circuit, IP, and frame relay traffic for adaptation to ATM services. N.E.T. has been successfully supporting multiservice IP networks with large clients for years.

"IP traffic can be tricky in its own right, but when you add voice and video to the same network then you really need to consider Quality of Service as an engineering requirement," said Craig Forbes, director, Promina Product Family, N.E.T. "The advantage that we offer is our ability to balance the traffic load across multiple circuits and dynamically adjust for on-demand voice calls, and quickly reroute traffic that encounters a trunk failure or heavy congestion without route table convergence."

The new LWX Edge Router software release features global routing capabilities in support of IP, IPX, DECnet, AppleTalk, Apollo Domain, Banyan VINES and IBM SNA traffic. Interfaces provide connections to other LWX Edge Routers, standalone routers from Cisco and other vendors, Promina 800 Series FrameXpress(tm) frame relay services, public frame relay and X.25 services, IBM devices and ATM services via the Promina's CellXpress ATM Access module.

From a management perspective, N.E.T. PanaVue(tm) network management gives a comprehensive view of the Promina network. Since PanaVue is a standards-based SNMP platform, LWX Edge Router and other SNMP-based devices such as Cisco routers can be managed from a single platform featuring web-based interfaces. If the LWX Edge Router experiences problems, the Promina 800 Series management channel can access the packet processor for out-of-band network communications, including remote hardware boot. A "hotswap" capability allows modules to be replaced without disrupting traffic and flash memory storage of configuration allows fast network restoration.
