Since we are now 5 months into 1999, an assessment can be made of the winners and losers since the beginning of the year for the group of 40 stocks. Over the past 5 months, the group is up 6 percent while the SOX-X is up 11 percent. There are 23 stocks up, 1 stock stayed the same and 16 stocks were down for the period. The spread in gainers and losers is tremendous - all the way from 252 percent gain to a 67 percent loss. LTXX has put every other stock to shame over this period with a gain of 252 percent to occupy top spot in the table. The second place stock, PHTN, had a 75 percent gain. LTXX has had a beautiful run since the beginning of the year and it shows no sign of stopping at the present time. It has been regularly setting new highs as it progresses through the year. Yesterday, it made a new high at 8.50, today it made another new high at 9.00 for a 1 day gain of 6 percent. The table shows that if you are an investor that likes to buy and hold for several months, being a good stockpicker is a wonderful talent.
