Hi Karin,
Depending on where you purchased your system, Microsoft Office (which contains Microsoft Excel) might or might not have been installed.
As Mark suggested, try clicking on the Start Menu, selecting Programs, and searching for Microsoft Excel.
If that fails, try clicking on the Start Button, selecting Find, and then Files or Folders. In the dialog box, type in "excel.exe", and make sure that you have My Computer selected in the "Look in" field, then click Find. If Excel is installed on your system, that should show it.
If not, you'll most likely have to purchase a copy. A brand new copy of Microsoft Office in the stores is a couple of hundred dollars last I checked, but you might be able to get a deal at an online auction house if your lucky. ex: ebay.com
