I quit smoking a couple of years ago. I had been pretty much a chain smoker for years, then cut down to one or two packs a day for a couple of years, then quit just before I turned 41, just under the wire for 40, so to speak. Part of it was health concerns (have kids, you start caring more about being around to play with the grandkids), part of it was setting a good example for my son, but part of it was economics. I started to cut back when the Clintons' started making noises about taxing smokers to death, and quit as Maryland started to kick in with new vice taxes. I wasn't going to waste so much money on something I shouldn't be doing anyway. Now, cartons are going for several bucks more than when I quit. I just stopped, no backsliding. The addiction stuff is crap, it is all question of motivation... |
