Think it was both, Dave.

I'm convinced that Thursday's 235 point Dow dive was attributable to pros. Many weren't planning to come in Friday and expected bearish economic data so they bailed. The Naz held up well, although the Nets took a hit.

Today, the economic data painted a pretty good picture. We rallied from about 10:30am on, albeit on modest volume (but quite respectable for a holiday eve). There was unmistakable short covering on the Naz in the last hour; that seemed to take the Naz up 15-18 points.

The markets looked healthy for the first time in several weeks. Note that the drugs were strong, too, a great sign. June should be a bullish month.
