Absolutely. I agree, but is that everyone's perception? Iomega is marketing very heavily to the ordinary consumer (albeit more so with Zip but the Iomega name always). So my concern is with the perception. My friends for example are engineers. Not uneducated and not excessively careless. I know that one must be careful with Jaz disks, but does everyone? These guys said they are going to return their Jaz because they lost data. I think a lot of people have the mindset "If it looks remotely like a floppy, it can be treated like one (a la the Zip)". In Jaz' favor, it is much cheaper to drop a Jaz disk than a hard drive...but data is data if you're relying on it. So my asertion would be that Jaz probably will not satisfy the expectations of many...whether they're dorks for dropping their disks or not.
I think a lot of people want a removable and PORTABLE hard drive type device which Jaz may or may not live up to. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a problem but I'm curious if anyone else had heard of these type problems with Jaz. Someone posted a few weeks back about ordering a few Jaz for his business and two did not work out of the box. Hard to believe and he may have been a short but its worth considering when the stock has gone so far so fast. Bad news would have been a lot less risky if the the stock had reached 100 (pre-split) by the end of the year like it should have.
