EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS DAMN POSTING!

To Andreas and anybody else whose head is in a total fog.

First let me say that you have no clue what the pricing is going to be for any of this. Second, you have no clue about the technology and just how many years behind AMD is. Third, they have not very likely will not make a profit for several years, if ever.


1. Look at advertisements and the focus on mutliple processors in those servers ads. It is critical that servers have this capability, it is quickly becoming a non-option. AMD K6 DOES NOT HAVE THIS ABILITY AND THEY WILL NOT GET ONE SINGLE SERVER CO USING THEIR CHIP, IT IS FOR HOME OR DESKTOP ONLY.

2. The bus speed is becoming critical and Pentium II will be able to support bus speeds of 100 Mhz. THIS IS THE SINGLE LARGEST BOTTLE NECK AND AMD IS STUCK ON A 33 MHZ SLOT. THAT IS FULLY 1/3 THE SPEED OF THE Pentium II LIMIT.

3. Pentium II is on an upgradable card and vendors want this new convenient and upgradable package. INTEL HAS PATENTS ON THIS SLOT AND AMD CANNOT USE IT WITH OUT GETTING A LICENSE FROM INTEL.

4. Intel is developing the CRITICAL media processing technology to work in cooperation with the Pentium II and the next generation of systems. AMD HAS NO MULTIMEDIA CAPABILITY AND THEY AREN'T EVEN A GOOD OPTION FOR A HOME PC.

5. AMD will not be able to deliver on volume and they will not get selected because of that. We don't even know what the yields are and there could be many, many problems with the chip itself.

6. AMD does not have a waiting list for the Merced 1000 Mhz system which Intel will release in 18 to 24 months at the very latest. They are using patented rocket science to design and manufacture them.

7. Intel is working on high speed communications and graphics chips due out this next quarter that will work with the Pentium II and the new upgradable slot-card technology.


Go ahead and sell your Intel if you want, but for crying out loud don't buy AMD which will not see a plugged nickel for several years if ever.
