Hi Croc, I just got back from the hardware store, I got some 1x10x6fts, select grade pine, for the bed, which was the lowest grade I could find, and some pressure-treated 2x2x4ft stakes for the uprights. I was reading up on pressure-treated wood, it's got arsenic in it, but the stakes are going to go on the outside of the wood that makes the bed, so I don't think should be a problem? To hot to do anything now, mad dogs and Englishmen, you know.

I looked around for some good tomato plants, haven't seen anything I really like yet, I think I will try a couple of nurserys and then maybe a farmer's market tomorrow.

Washington Post Garden Book says Better Boy, Big Beef and Beefmaster are good hybrids for local area (D.C. metro area) and Carmello and Dona are good French hybrids and for heirlooms, Brandywine, Old Flame, Valencia, Mortgage Lifter, Costoluto Genovovese and Large Red.

I get the impression you are down on hybrids but I haven't read the entire thread, is my impression accurate, and if so, why?
