Corporation : Deutsche Telekom [DT] will try to
excite interest in its international long-distance
service by cutting rates for calls to 22 countries,
including the United States, by as much as 44

Rhythms NetConnections [RTHM] plans to
be in the long distance data business by the end of
summer, company executives told us. By
connecting local digital subscriber line (DSL) in 12
metropolitan areas with long-distance Internet
protocol, ATM, frame relay and SONET private line
connections, Rhythms executives hope to sell
cheaper and faster long distance data connections
than popular DS-1s. Rhythms plans to buy raw
ATM, frame relay and SONET private line
connectivity from MCI WorldCom [WCOM] and raw
frame relay and ATM connectivity from Qwest
[QWST].
