FYI - Palm is all over this Sunday's Washington Post business section:

"The Cult of the Palm," lead story (a picture of Palm VII covers almost a quarter of the page). (Story continues "Palm Wins Fans With Simplicity," with tables showing all the recent Palm models and price and feature comparing (favorably, IMO) vs. competing products). It continues onto yet another full half page entitled "Palm Succeeded Where Newton Flopped")

"A Gadget, A Love Story" (Story continues "The Palm: A Brainy Little Pal") - very positive review.

"Another View, Through Windows" Continuation entitled "The Competition: Micro Microsoft") - A story by a CE user who likes being able to integrate with Windows programs, but who ends the story with:

"Last week, before heading off to cover a political fund-raiser in McLean, I entered the driving directions and contact information into my CE device and put it in my pocket. Then I wondered what would happen if my batteries died. I paused, then scribbled the same driving directions and contact information on a piece of paper and stuffed that into my other pocket. Just in case."

"WinCE: A Flawed Giant Poised to Rule Tiny Computers" - Even some who helped develop CE slam it, though the story is dismissive of Palm's ability to maintain its lead and gives credence to the threat (?) posed by Symbian Inc., a Psion spinoff. Also, the story ended with a consultant's opinion, who said Windows CE gets criticized a lot but he's still a fan. But it goes on to add:

"Doherty, it should be noted, was talking on a commuter train as he returned to his suburban office from a Manhattan meeting. There he confessed, he took notes on his Palm V. 'I didn't want to have a large device in my hands. I wanted to look stylish and cutting-edge. In this case, the cutting edge is the Palm V. But tonight I'm going on a trip, and I'll take my CE. It's got more communications capability and a longer battery life.' Clearly, the war for this new market is in the early stages."
