I think some people do become addicted to THC. I have known them. Maybe they are the kind of people who get addicted to everything, there are such people. I, myself, have never experienced "addiction", such that I would steal or kill to support my habit, but I did experience the unpleasant effects of physiological dependence when I quit smoking cigarettes, 19 years ago, when I was pregnant with my first child. It was unpleasant, but I was very motivated.
With respect to the social acceptance of tobacco, of course it is not socially acceptable now to large segments of the population, and there have been periods where it was banned, and even times and places where the users faced execution, e.g. Ottoman Empire. But it is one of the drugs that facilitates hard work, and makes the wheels of capitalism go round, along with caffeine, guarana, and theobromine, and, from time to time, other stimulants. |
