My RBOC, BellSouth, started offering ADSL this winter in my neighborhood in New Orleans. And all of a sudden in early April my dial up connection to Bellsouth.net became so unreliable as to be unusable. I even subscribed to ATTWorld.net, and I get no better connections from my home. Countless calls and e-mails have only resulted in one big run around.
For a variety of other reasons I don't want to bore you with, I suspect BellSouth is pulling the old bait & switch to force their subscribers to upgrade to more expensive ADSL's. And they are stifling the competition if "line noise" prevents using another ISP.
I'm getting an ADSL within the next two weeks. I suspect my ADSL line will be problem free. And I will be conveying my suspicions, and frustrations, to my LA. public service commissioners and AT&T Worldnet.
