George and All,

Forgive me if this has been posted but there is a great slide/audio presentation on the NTAP site that is very instructive, IMO:

netapp.com

Click in the area that says "The Evolution of NAS and SAN". This took a few minutes to get cranked up but was worth the wait. Note the mention of an OEM with Brocade and the repeated mentioning of Brocade's name. Then notice how the speaker(a founder of NTAP) back peddles and says that they may use switches from other companies. Sounds like another OEM for Brocade that might just slip away. I wonder who the new vendor might be? -g-

Something in the presentation that I thought may have been incorrect is the narrator's contention that FC only encapsulates SCSI. I could swear I've seen it stated in several places that it also encapsulates TCP/IP. If so, that would seem to invalidate his main argument for NAS in place of SANs. Then again, in the end, he gives a ringing endorsement for switched SANs. The presentation is about 23 minutes long so block out sufficient time.
