KZNerd - Re: ". These markets have lower margins than Intel is used to."

I don't think that is news to Intel.

Intel has had an embedded processor business since about 1976 starting with their 8048, 49..8051, 8096..etc.

The lower margin business is not new - it just doesn't get the notoriety nor does it account for Intel's huge growth.

The StrongARM will give Intel a chance to become the pervasive supplier of lower end computing applications - from hand helds, to set top boxes, to WebPads, to automotive controllers (where Intel has already had large success), etc.

I think Intel is now looking at alternative ways of beefing up their TOP LINE growth - and leaving the bottom line growth to the x86/Merced segments.
