I think the time for the cheap PC for everyone has come. That reputable manufacturer that put the cheap PC on the market will win. Dell knows how to sell direct. Intel would have to duplicate that ability (something Compaq cannot do). Even though Dell's cash margin per box would fall, they can still sell direct far cheaper than Intel or anyone else can. Intel is hardly interested in investing in the low-margin PC business. The world needs a cheap PC -- and Intel can make the integrated chip cheap.
