Microsoft technology chief departs --Time magazine

NEW YORK, May 30 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp.'s (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) Chief Technology Officer Nathan Myhrvold will take a sabbatical of an undetermined length from the world's largest software maker, Time Magazine reported in its issue dated June7.

Microsoft, which was not immediately available for comment, is expected to make the announcement this week, Time said.

Citing sources inside and outside the company, Time said Microsoft President Steve Ballmer orchestrated an ouster of Myrhvold.

The magazine said a source in the company told it Myrhvold was outside of the office pursuing his hobbies, which include car racing, paleontology and gourmet cooking, more than he was in the office heading the $3 billion research department.
