You can actually a) select the text by holding down your left mouse button,
or,
b) click once where you want to start selecting and then shift-click at the place where you want it to end. This should work on most web browsers.

Then, choose copy from the edit menu to copy your selection;
when you're ready, click where you want to put it and choose paste from the edit menu.

Also, you might want to cut and paste the pointer from the Location: box for the web page you cited. I tried several variations of it, but it was not found in each case.
