Has anyone read John Ehler's book Mesa and Trading Market Cycles? Any comments?

Any comments on the Mesa sine wave indicator in Metastock?

Keith,

Since you haven't gotten any other answers yet, I'll volunteer the (very) little I know.

Fourier analysis and Wavelets are the approaches I'm aware of for filtering price data to find cycles, neither of which is available in Metastock. As I understand it, subtracting a moving average is one common method to get a de-trended price series to do further analysis on. The references to this stuff that I've seen are in the context of writings on Neural Networks.

see wavelet.org for wavelet references.

mesasoftware.com is John Ehler's site.
