Hi Robert,

Do you believe in redemption? If so, isn't it dangerous to categorize someone as being "subhuman" based upon their actions? Is anyone beyond redemption?

If a person can be redeemed but they're currently "subhuman," do they become "human" again once they're redeemed?

Do you think the torturers themselves ever suffer because of the dim life they choose to lead? Does that count for anything?

I'm just happy I've never become one of those sadists, but I can certainly see the traits within myself. It's been said that the Nazis for instance were a certain type of person that the rest of us are not. I'm fairly certain though that the capacity for cruelty exists in most, if not all of us.

Can you see any of this or is it a waste of time on my part? Are these points invalid?

My uncle once said, "give a 20-year old male a rifle and take him away from his mother and all kinds of atrocities can happen." He was speaking of the Japanese armies of the '30s in China but doesn't it apply pretty much everywhere?

FWIW
Andy
