I thought the put selling was considered part of the stock buyback. What is the reason for it other than that? It generates lots of tax-free cash, and none of it appears on the income statement. Strategic acquisitions are very positive steps if they result in synergies between the two companies. I view Dell's virtual integration model as one that could be applied to any number of potential acquisitions, and those acquisitions could fuel rapid growth through the end of the next decade.
