John, I can attest to the facts as given in the article you posted. Lately I've received a number of e-mails from a couple of high school kids over there (relatives) and it seems they're always sending them from school. They were definitely astonished when I told them I don't own a cellular phone! Things have changed since my days - we thought passing notes in class was a big deal. But then, the teachers were tough! Bill Epstein: A few years ago I read about an engine made from carbon fibers set in a plastic matrix. The block, connecting rods, and other parts were all of composite material. It was called the Polymotor, and was being used in race cars. It had a tremendous power to weight ratio. I believe there are now several sizes, and they are finding their way into the light aircraft market, an obvious application. Could this be the engine you mentioned? - T -
