Tim,

To get a good feel for TA, it's a good idea to expose and immerse yourself in the various methods used. A good book to begin with is Edwards and Magee's Technical Analysis of Stock Trends. A classic on charts. Schwager on Futures: Technical Analysis is useful as well. For added perspective that Western-style charting can't provide, I recommend you look up Candlestick Charting Explained by Gregory Morris. And finally, Point & Figure Charting by Dorsey. That should complete your arsenal.

For books that touch upon how it is adopted by other traders, look up Technically Speaking by Wilkinson, as well as Market Wizards and The New Market Wizards both by Schwager.

If you want to be truly adept at TA, I further recommend that you pay up the bucks to get a serious charting program. Those internet-based charting programs are convenient, but lack the flexibility one needs if you truly are looking to talk the talk and walk the walk with the TA buffs on SI.

Oh, and one more thing, get a book on blackjack as well. You'll find the concept of risk management to be key to your trading.

Regards,

Rainier
