I have not been inside the Hays- Adams. The word is that it is in beautiful shape. I have gone to conferences in the Mayflower, on lower Connecticut, and the downstairs facilities are lovely. I haven't heard any grousing about the rooms, but I have no personal experience. There are many fine hotels around town, of course, some of which my wife and I, together or separately, have been in for conferences, luncheons, and dinners. I would say, off- hand, that the Willard, which is right on Pennsylvania near the National Theater and around the corner from the White House, is the most magnificent the prime tourist area. It is also pretty pricey (but then so is the Hays- Adams). Also, the Watergate Hotel is well located, and has splendid views....You can get good accommodations with a little bit of a price break by going up Connecticut, near the zoo, for example to the Sheraton. And you can save a lot by going across the river to Crystal City...Nine is pretty young, but a lot depends on her curiosity and where you intend to go. It should be impressive to her, but I do not know how much she will understand or remember (in detail). I don't know, I reserved things like the Supreme Court for when my son was older, but we have gone to places like the Smithsonian Museums and the National Gallery, and the memorials, since he was little... |
