Glenayre and Infowave announce strategic development agreement

Installed base of 50 million pagers will gain
wireless access to Microsoft Exchange information

CHARLOTTE, N.C. and BURNABY, B.C., June 1 /CNW/ - Glenayre Technologies
Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS) and Infowave Software Inc. (VSE: IWM) announced today that
they have entered into a strategic development agreement to enable wireless
access for Microsoft(R) Exchange users. Under the agreement, the companies
will work together to develop and market low-cost desktop software that allows
wireless, mobile access to Exchange data, such as e-mail, calendars, contacts
and task lists, through Glenayre's Internet gateways.
Combined with Glenayre's messaging systems, Infowave's software will work
with a wide range of existing wireless devices, including 1-way pagers,
1.5-way pagers, 2-way pagers, and PCS or GSM phones. Terms of the deal were
not disclosed, but the companies indicated that Glenayre will distribute the
software through its global wireless messaging carrier customers.
Stan Ciepcielinski, chief operating officer of Glenayre, stated,
''Wireless Internet messaging offers tremendous growth potential over the next
few years. The Infowave agreement reflects our dedication to developing and
providing efficient and economical Internet access using two-way messaging
technology.''
''Our agreement with the world's leading messaging infrastructure
provider represents another important endorsement for Infowave's wireless
computing technology and important added value for messaging subscribers
worldwide,'' says Bijan Sanii, Infowave's chief operating officer. ''Infowave
and Glenayre will collaborate to add significant new functionality to the huge
market of mobile users. Using Glenayre technology and Infowave software,
subscribers will be more connected than ever with real-time access to their
important Microsoft Exchange data.''
''The real power of this solution is that it works with subscribers'
existing devices and service contracts,'' stated Lee Ellison, senior vice
president of personal data networks at Glenayre. ''With Infowave's software,
subscribers won't need another device or a new service provider. The software
allows subscribers to be wirelessly connected to their Microsoft Exchange
information within minutes.''
