The Vancouver Sun reports in a Calgary Herald dispatch in its Tuesday edition that the former head of Naxos Resources has been banned from trading stocks or acting as a company officer in Alberta for 10 years after he was found guilty of issuing misleading press releases. Reporter Vicki Barnett says that an Alberta Securities Commission panel on Monday found that Mr. John, the president, chief executive and chairman of Vancouver-based Naxos Resources, issued misleading press releases between July 1991 and December 1995. Mr. John is also banned for 10 years from acting as a director or officer of any organization issuing stock in Alberta. He was ordered to pay $9,250 of the $30,000 investigation cost, and $75,000 of the $250,000 hearing costs. It was the third-longest ban imposed by the ASC. Edmonton-based William Grantmyre of American Moneycentre Thrift and Loan was hit with a 25-year ban in 1997, while Calgary-based Larry Ryckman of Westgroup was banned for 18 years in a 1996 commission hearing.
