Barb - advantages of diamond field emission displays... If a field emission or negative electron affinity emission display, diamond can be a good cathode material. I don't have time to explain why right now, so I'll just say a few things: 1. diamond is more resistant to poisoning than metallic cathodes 2. diamond has a low work function when hydrogenated 3. SI diamond doesn't use diamond; they use a diamond-like carbon (DLC) film which has some similar properties. 4. When used as a field-emitter, the low work function is good, but the injection of charge into the diamond is the hard part. maybe i can write in more detail later... -bob mackey
