Scumbria, Scumbria, Scumbria.... Is this the PCOAC?
RE:"PB,
Whatdaya think Mr. S.?
I don't see any serious competition for Timna coming from anywhere else, and I expect that it will dominate the entry level PC market.
The only possibility for competition would come from National, so my statement above holds ;^)

National Semiconductor Launches New Chip for Acer XC Computers
Taipei, June 1 (Bloomberg) -- National Semiconductor Corp. introduced a new chip that will help Taiwan's Acer Inc. sell computers especially designed for easy Internet access.
The chip, called Gilad, can process a variety of Web-related features, such as video and digital applications, said Mike Polacek, vice president of California-based National Semiconductor. It normally takes six chips to perform all these functions, he said.
Acer will use the chip on some of its XC computer platforms, which allow users to surf education, entertainment and e-commerce Web sites from their computers or television sets. ''Together with Acer, we're taking the overall Internet experience to the next level,'' Polacek said.
Acer expects to sell as many as 300,000 XC computers worth $75 million to clients in the U.S., Japan and Europe this year, said Ray Hui, a general manager at Acer. The company shipped 100,000 units in 1998.
National Semiconductor, a manufacturer of chips used in computers, cars and phones, said production of the new chip will begin later this year. No production volumes were given.
Polacek said Gilad made its first public appearance today at Taipei's Computex Computer Show.
