Freeflight, why don't you think better. Motorola makes edge cell phones to connect to big Motorola wireless contral offices. Nokia does same thing. LU makes cheap edge phone to connect to big CO's. So what's wrong with COMS making NIC's and Pilots to connect to big COMS Switching Fabric devices. Eric is finally doing what you suggest. No quick Chipcom buyout will get Coms into high end. A NN Newbridge merger would help. Free-Think before you post little lady.
