RE:"I'll go out on another predictive limb and claim that the Y2K panic won't
happen.

Sure, we may have a pretty good downturn some time this year -- maybe
it even just started -- but I don't think Y2K will have much to do with it.
I think Y2K will come in with a whimper, not a bang"

It's already happening.
The government assures us that it's being "taken care of", don't worry. On the other hand, they tell you to "be prepared". The US treasury has already printed 50 billion in CASH in case their is a run on the banks.
One assembly man tells constituents that Y2K will be no big deal. Later we find out he just bought a generator.
How many Lawsuits are in the waiting for those who bought a non-Y2k Dell computer? At least Canada has banned Y2K lawsuits. Lawyers will have a field day in the USA. There will be gas lines toward the end of the year. Supermarkets will be wiped out. Power company distribution equipment may not work. Batteries will be gone. Propane tanks...gone.
Guns will sell real well.
Large purchases will be put off until next year. The economy will slow because of it.
