BOULDER, Colo., March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Exabyte Corp. (Nasdaq: EXBT)
today announced the popular Zip drive from Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM) is
now a member of Exabyte's Eagle Nest family of storage devices. The new Eagle
Nest Zip includes a cordless, portable Zip drive and an internal Eagle IDE
Nest. The Nest is installed in a PC's 5.25-inch drive bay. The Nest-
Ready(TM) Zip drive can then be plugged in and unplugged like a removable car
stereo. It also can be plugged into any other PC equipped with the internal
IDE Nest or the External Eagle Nest. This lets workgroups share a single Zip
drive among many PCs. It gives standalone PC users all the power of a Zip
drive with built-in capability to add other Eagle Nest-Ready storage
peripherals in the same bay.
The Eagle Nest Zip works with practically all PCs shipping today and is
fully compatible with existing Zip disks. It is the only Zip drive that is
plug-in compatible with either the internal or external IDE Eagle Nest. Toll-
free support for the drive is provided by Exabyte.
Iomega has positioned the Zip drive as a new storage solution for managing
the explosion of computer information. With the advent of multi-media,
customers need more than the traditional floppy to meet all their storage
needs. The pairing of the Zip drive and the Exabyte Eagle Nest offers
unlimited storage options for PC users.
"The addition of Iomega's Zip drive to the Nestable(TM) family of products
means the Eagle Nest offers PC users a drive for virtually any storage task."
Said Bob LiVolsi, vice president and general manager of the Eagle division.
"Our family of plug-in Eagle drives now includes the Nest Zip, Nest TR-4i
Travan tape drive, Nest HD hard drive and Nest LS-120 super floppy drive.
This makes the Eagle Nest a truly universal storage bay with virtually
limitless expansion potential. That's why we refer to NEST as the Never
Ending Storage Technology(TM)."
LiVolsi explained that many PC users would opt for a variety of storage
peripherals to handle various tasks such as hard-disk backup, large-file
transfer, work-in-process storage, file archiving and Internet-file
downloading. However, because of limited PC bays and slots, they often
compromise with a single storage peripheral, or buy expensive external
devices. With the Eagle Nest peripherals, a single bay handles virtually all
of the storage technology required for data protection, file transfer, long-
term storage and day-to-day file management.
The Eagle Nest Zip drive is now available from Exabyte in either the full
Eagle Nest configuration (Eagle Zip drive with Eagle Nest IDE interface) as
well as the Eagle Nest-Ready configuration (a plug-in Eagle Zip drive ready to
insert in Eagle Nest-equipped PCs). The internal Nest IDE is also available
separately. The anticipated U.S. street prices are $230 or less for the
complete Eagle Nest Zip drive, $185 or less for the Nest-Ready Zip drive and
$90 for the internal Eagle Nest IDE interface.
Headquartered in Boulder, Colo., Exabyte Corp. designs, manufactures and
markets a full range of tape storage products: 8mm and minicartridge tape
drives, 8mm and 4mm tape libraries, and recording media. Exabyte is the
world's largest independent manufacturer focused solely on tape storage
products, which it markets through original equipment manufacturers,
distributors and resellers.
