Eric, I still think that the home page issue is overdone, and could be resolved over time through other means.

Your arguments against the creation of additional ISP channels are well taken, and like I stated earlier, I had made those arguments myself earlier in the thread. But they will be disproved when ATHM itself finds the need for such service creation for their own purposes. Then, at that point, what will the argument be?

FAC: What if AOL buys out CBS?

Eric: " What indeed? What are they going to do, shut down network programming for internet service? CBS needs the channel too you know. Where do you put the CBS evening news? More significantly I am in no way convinced that the right to a channel for TV broadcasting gives them the right to connect into every head end in the country for internet service either. They are drastically different things."

I will step out on the limb here and suggest that AOL, if they were to do a takeout of CBS, might have some startlingly different ideas about the fate of CBS's current 6 MHz channel allocations... which would be significanltly more draconian than yours.

And, if I'm not mistaken, each of the major broadcasters will, in any event, also have rights in the digital spectrum allocations (between 550 and 750 MHz)at some time, which could be used to offset a loss in the lower 6 MHz channel region. [Dave Horne, please clarify this, if you will.]

BTW, my only stakes in this area lie in the pursuit of some edifying discussion and the exchanging of ideas. FWIW.

Regards, Frank Coluccio
