Leading Movie Theater Chains Choose J.D. Edwards to Prepare for Peak Summer Season
Solution Delivers Integration and Automation; Helps Theaters Improve
Efficiency and Meet Audience Demands
DENVER, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq: JDEC) announced that its enterprise solution has been selected by leading theater chains, including Mann Theaters, Pacific Theatres and Century Theatres. The entertainment industry experiences a rapid pace of change, especially during the blockbuster summer movie season, and requires enterprise systems that are flexible and integrated. Customers cite the leading reasons for deploying J.D. Edwards enterprise software are to reduce costs, improve efficiency and increase visibility of business-critical information.
"J.D. Edwards performs particularly well in the entertainment market. The company relies on the strength of its inventory, warehouse and product management applications to target the film and music distribution processes of the entertainment industry value chain," said Kristen Tobias, senior analyst with Dataquest. "With a vendor nimble enough to react to a merger-happy industry, J.D. Edwards is well positioned to capture a greater part of the enterprise applications revenue pie over the next few years."
Operating from multiple sites, and integrating financial information from those sites, is a difficult, yet essential task for movie theaters. Identifying the profitability of movies and concessions helps theaters forecast for future seasons. Mann Theaters, which owns and operates 371 screens throughout California and Colorado, replaced its existing mainframe system with J.D. Edwards' OneWorld(TM) financial and logistics/distribution suites to increase the processing of financial information and speed up closing cycle times in its 56 theaters. Pacific Theatres implemented J.D. Edwards' WorldSoftware(TM) to integrate such information as financials, human resources, purchasing, job cost and contract management from multiple sites.
"The flexibility of J.D. Edwards' OneWorld has allowed us to record cost-of-sales and record revenue and examine concession inventory on an individual theater or consolidated basis," said Steve Broudy, CIO at Mann Theaters. "This has allowed us to reduce overall inventory costs by minimizing human error, eliminating data duplication, and reducing the number of physical audits necessary."
"J.D. Edwards' WorldSoftware has allowed us to operate with a technology-enabled workforce, thus streamlining our financial reporting processes," said Charlie Cronander, manager of IBM AS/400 operations and support for Pacific Theatres. "Employees have quick access to critical information for decision making and business forecasting. The flexibility and usability of the system allows us to standardize our business processes and react quickly to changes in our business."
Theaters are not only using J.D. Edwards to better service customers, but to also increase internal operating efficiencies. San Rafael, Calif.-based Century Theatres is using J.D. Edwards' WorldSoftware modules for general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, construction accounting and payroll.
"J.D. Edwards has helped us create significant efficiencies in our internal accounting procedures," said Jeff Biales, controller for Century Theatres.
"J.D. Edwards integrates well with our custom developed point solutions for box office accounting, confection auditing, film accounting and payroll time clock systems, allowing us to accurately report our profitability in a timely manner."
