I agree with your assessment that MER will have an impact, however,
the force is still with E*Trade (I apologize for any ties to the movie Star Wars). But Seriously, clearly E*Trade is out to help the small investor. Believe me, MER's requirement that you deposit $20,000 for a starting position to get the $29.99 rate will NOT drive the masses to their door. E*Trade has a solid position here and their appeal is definitely getting stronger now, with the purchase of the online bank -- TeleBanc.
