I must have spent two or three hours late yesterday afternoon pruning roses. I had to throw out hundreds of buds on one red, English rose because they were plastered with powdery mildew. I have not been able to identify this one. Maybe it is correctly labeled, but I don't believe that it is.

The three other six ones also have powdery mildew but they were not so big and I suspect they are either the English roses called, "Othello", or "The Prince." I thought they were "The Prince" but there are so many thorns on them. All four were mislabeled at the nursery, Jackson and Perkins. Or I assume that is where the tags were placed. It took me a couple of years to notice though since I hadn't had a lot of experience with roses at that time.

Next year, I will toss all four. I don't know why I didn't do it last year. They require hours of work and the flowers look terrible.

And after, I threw out leaves and stems, I sprayed. Again!

I see why your Peace climber is so huge! It grows 15 to 20 feet!!!!
The three climbers I put in are small, by contrast. They are in the eight to twelve foot range.
