Kingston Vision Selects iMagicTV for Digital TV Services Deployment
SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK, Canada, June 1 /CNW/ - iMagicTV, a leading provider of interactive digital television software for the telecommunications industry, announced today that Kingston Vision, a subsidiary of UK-based Kingston Communications (Hull) plc, has chosen iMagicTV's DTV Manager, to deliver interactive television services including digital TV channels, Web-based email, high-speed Internet and Video on Demand to its customers. DTV Manager is the software application that enables telcos and other service providers to deliver and manage integrated television, high-speed Internet and email services over high-speed networks, including existing copper telephone lines. ''We are delighted to be working with Kingston and their partners to deliver interactive television services in the UK,'' said Marcel LeBrun, President and Chief Executive of iMagicTV. Kingston Vision has recently commenced first phase implementation of its interactive services and plans to offer service to its customers before the end of the year. ''Implementing iMagicTV's technology is an important part of the planned deployment of our interactive television service,'' said Matt Child, Managing Director of Kingston Vision. ''We believe DTV Manager provides the essential features for telcos that want to enter the television services business.'' DTV Manager allows Kingston Vision to deliver a digital television service to its customers unlike any available in today's marketplace. Kingston Vision customers will enjoy digital television channels, high-speed Internet, web-based email, and ''universal'' channels that enable interactive applications like e-commerce, banking, and Web browsing. The service will also permit the integration of Video on Demand applications and other third party applications. Viewers can access these services through their television and a set-top box. Features include channel browsing with information banners, an easy-to-use Interactive Program Guide (IPG) and present and future program information. Now, Kingston Vision customers will be able to easily view what's on TV now and days from now. In addition, they'll be able to view and send email, surf the Web and more right from their television. They'll also be able to instantly order movies with click of their TV remote control, instead of calling for service or waiting for a particular movie to be showing. The service administration and operations components of DTV Manager integrate a number of features that will enable Kingston Vision to manage customer accounts, channel packaging, and video content administration. These administration and operations components are designed to work with existing telco environments and processes, allowing telcos to leverage these systems for additional revenue. For subscribers, this will mean integrated billing of multiple services and opportunities for future discounts, offers and specials from Kingston Vision. DTV Manager's open architecture and use of industry standard protocols allows Kingston to integrate components such as subscriber set-top boxes, servers and network infrastructure from a number of technology providers. The companies that iMagicTV is currently working with to provide a fully integrated solution for Kingston Vision, include Sun, Oracle, and PixStream.
