Your question is fair enough. In the absence of specific data pointing to either market makers or hedge funds, it is hard to beat logic over emotion. Logic says the hedge funds short as a natural part of their business model. The reverse is true for market makers. Supermarkets don't sell durable goods and auto dealers don't sell safety pins. My bet is that your bogeys are the hedge funds.
