Paul, re: "I thought AMD provided Quake drivers for the K6-2 3DLater!" Yes and no. The Quake drivers wouldn't work with my son's video card and the manufacturer told me that they didn't intend to support "older" video cards (it was less than a year old but that didn't seem to matter).

At that point is was cheaper to buy a fast CeleronA for myself and give him my PII/266. The K6-2/300 didn't go to waste. I use it every day to dial into the office for file updates and office mail.
