I agree that gold seems to live in a world of its own these days. However, if the rise in AA and PD are due to the reason that you mention, why isn't DELL up? I think that AA is up because regardless of Al prices several market participants seriously believe that there is a threat of inflation and that Al prices will soon head higher. Now, what makes this more interesting is that AHP is going to miss estimates by a mile, blaming it on weakness of worldwide grain and livestock prices. Couple that with the fact the crude prices have been dropping and the CPI as you have mentioned should be lower. As for the core, that, indeed, is key. As well as the employment stats coming out on Friday. I believe that the employment numbers will not show excess strength but am very anxious for the core CPI number.
