Oil Will Be Explored At One Million Square Kilometres In Sudan Khartoum, June 1 (SUNA)- An official source at the Ministry of Energy and Mining said that petroleum will be explored at an area exceeding one million square kilometres all over the country. He said in a press statement to SUNA that the Great Nile Petroleum Operating Company (GNPOC) was given licence to explore petroleum at an area of 49,000 square kilometres, adding that still oil was not yet explored at 80% of this concession area. The source indicated that the coming five years are expected to witness big oil exploration operations in the country. Meanwhile, SUNA learned that the Oil Exploration and Production Department at the Ministry of Energy and Mining has worked an oil exploration concessions map in the country toward attracting foreign investors in this field. It is to be recalled that Sudan has been importing petroleum products from abroad at the cost of 450 million dollars annually which represented a heavy burden in the balance of payment. The volume of the foreign investments in the project of utilizing the Sudanese petroleum exceeded 3.5 billion dollars.
