Donald, re:<< They say that the Internet is changing the PC from a computational device to a communications vehicle. My interpretation of the article is that bandwidth is the new scarcity and thus companies that resolve that problem are the ones to own stock in. They suggest that Intel, Microsoft and Dell will benefit to a lesser degree from the paradigm than other communications-oriented companies.>> I find it hard to believe that the pc is changing from a computational device to a communications vehicle. I believe there will always be the need for a computational pc in the home, and certainly in the office. If one were using a pc only to access the internet, than a cheaper "appliance" may be better. However, even this is questionable in my mind. Further, with pc's going in the $500 range, and getting cheaper, I hate to think what the appliances will sell for. Heck, sign-up with an IP service and they'll give you one for free. As far as Intel and Microsoft is concerned, there will also be the need for chips and s/w. Every appliance, computer, network box, tv box, cell phone, etc. will need chips and s/w.
As Andy Grove of Intel said, "only the paranoid will survive". Hope you are as paranoid as I am. <VBG>
