Medical Technology Wins Spanish Order For Vision Testing of Schoolchildren
LANCASTER, Pa., March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Medical Technology & Innovations Inc said it is shipping 22 MTI PhotoScreener(TM) units to Spain for vision testing of schoolchildren for amblyopia, or "lazy eye," the leading cause of vision loss in the pediatric age group today.
The order marks the 100th PhotoScreener sold to Spain since the visual screening device was cleared for marketing in the US by the FDA. International sales of the PhotoScreener total approximately $400,000, or nearly 17% of the roughly 2,000 devices shipped. Jeremy P. Feakins, chief executive officer, said "The international marketplace represents a tremendous opportunity for the MTI PhotoScreener." Feakins cited multiple orders from Neitz Instruments, Medical Technology's distributor in Japan, continuing orders from the People's Republic of China, and early success by Medical Technology's European sales office as examples of recent successes. Helping in this activity has been the international division of Polaroid Corp , Medical Technology's marketing partner.
The MTI PhotoScreener system utilizes Polaroid film to create images of the eyes which clearly show the presence of vision problems that can lead to the disease amblyopia ("lazy eye"). The PhotoScreener detects strabismus (crossed eyes), anisometropia (unequal refractive error), near- and far-sightedness, astigmatism, and cataracts in very young children.
