Com21 Announces ComPORT 5000

I don't know how much it will cost, but personally, I think everyone would want the functionality this seems to provide, not just SOHO's.

Company Press Release

Com21 Announces New Office Cable Modem for Small
Office/Home Office Markets

The ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem Delivers High-speed, Secure, Multi-port Internet Connectivity

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 1999--Com21, Inc., (Nasdaq:CMTO - news), a leading global provider of communications
solutions for the broadband access market, today announced its modular ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem, a new addition to its family of
broadband access solutions.

The ComPORT® 5000 Office Cable Modem is designed to meet the needs of small businesses, telecommuters and multiple-PC residential users. It
delivers high-speed, secure, multi-port LAN and Internet connectivity in a single modular solution.

Com21 continues to leverage its solid integrated voice and data platform to enable cable operators to meet the ever-growing demands of the Small
Office/Home Office (SOHO) market. Com21 will demonstrate the ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem in booth No. 3912 at the upcoming
National Cable Television Association's Cable '99 Exhibit and Conference, June 14-16 in Chicago, IL.

''The Office Cable Modem further separates Com21 from our competition by offering high value, competitive features and functionality. It includes a
built-in firewall, advanced networking features, a 4-port Ethernet hub, and an expansion slot,'' said Peter Fenner, president and CEO of Com21, Inc.

''The ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem is a low cost, single-box solution for cable subscribers with two or more PCs,'' added Fenner. ''To
get that function, a subscriber would have to buy a separate router, firewall, Ethernet hub and DHCP server,'' said Fenner, ''a multi-box solution is
more expensive and complex to install.''

Advanced Features

The ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem is an ideal solution for multi-PC homes, small businesses and work-at-home users who require
high-speed Internet access. Using an integrated firewall, the ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem provides enterprise-class network security
protecting the user's network from security attacks. Its Virtual Private Networking (VPN) software option provides low-cost remote access to
corporate networks.

Its content filtering capability enables users to restrict access to undesired Internet web sites, such as adult sites from children. An easy-to-use
web-based interface allows an end-user to easily set up and manage the whole network.

The ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem incorporates Internet security technology from Sonic Systems, Inc. In a press release issued May 10,
1999 (Business Wire), Com21 and Sonic Systems jointly announced a technology licensing agreement for future products. Com21 incorporates the
SonicWALL Internet security technology into the ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem to provide Internet security and high-speed networking for
cable modem users.

The ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem utilizes an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) transport that offers Quality of Service (QoS) over the
cable infrastructure that allows prioritization of voice-over-data traffic. Since it is based on the field-proven ComPORT® cable modem, it provides
the same performance and reliability that has made Com21's product successful.

The Network Address Translation (NAT) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) features allow multiple computers to share a single IP
address, resulting in significant cost savings and preserving precious IP addresses.

Optional IPSec VPN Feature

With the optional Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) VPN software module, small businesses and corporate telecommuters can set-up secure IP
tunnels with remote networks across the Internet. This provides a low-cost WAN access alternative to corporate telecommuters.

Availability and Pricing

The ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem is currently in trials in both North America and Europe and is expected to be available in July 1999. The
ComPORT 5000 Office Cable Modem is priced at $760 (U.S.) for the base modem.
