Well, Doug, I for one, am glad real names are NOT a requirement. In a perfect world there is no prejudice against race, color, creed, ethnicity, gender, caste, physical, mental, or social impairment, sexual orientation, bald, fat, svelte, PhD, MD, DVD, JD or school of hardknocks.
Until you find such a world, please be tolerant of those who chose to use monikers in their cyberworld to overcome prejudice.
I suppose we could all be just another number...

as one of the obviously prejudiced and intolerant majority,
wouldn't know whether we are typing w/a pencil clenched between our teeth (as I know some on here are BTW!!!) or with brown-skinned hands, or reading monitors through almond shaped eyes, or dimmed eyes due to blindness and using voice recognition technology....
