Ice I think he is a loose cannon. Much like Jim Carville. Now I do belive that the purpose of Idian military action at the border is to flush out the Pakistan trained militants and some Afgan mercinaries whose mission is to infiltrate in to India and stage a gorilla war. Earlier edministrations have dealt with the problem inland, which is much difficult to deal with than curbing the inflow at the border.

If Pakistan officials can keep on making these nonsensic claims, they can put India on the defensive in explaining the situation. And, they hope to elude their involvement in aiding and training the insurgents in Kashmir. That must be their strategy. In any case, I think India might have definitely fired across the boarder and there might have been some collateral damage. But to calim that India deliberately targetted a school and a mosque is simply ridiculous. When India first tested the n-bomb, the very same officials uttered nonsense as if India fired the bombs on Pak soil.

Speaking of border, Pakistan defied a 1950s UN resolution to vacate the occupied kashmir to pave way for peaceful resolution of the issue via referundum. In my opinion, Pak has no business claiming that its occupied territory is its own sovereign soil. Granted, no one wants to reopen the healing wounds, if Pak continues to encourage terrorists in the Indian controlled Kashmir, do you blame Indian government for taking a stern action? I know Pak denies any involvement with Kashmiri terrorists. I would believe it as much as I believe Rajiv Gandhi's government denial of involvement with Tamil militants in Sri Lanka.

However, I do think (or hope) that the situation will be contained as long as Vajpayee doesn't play in to the hands of Hindu fundamentalists as did LK Advani, the president of BJP party who was responsible for the 1992 (or is it 1993) Babri Maszid incident. The Hindu extremists demolished that ancient mosque in Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Krisha. Their claim that it was built in 1600s by demolishing the Krishna temple was true. But I think it is idiotic to open wounds by repeating a mistake.

Anyhow, that incident re-opened a lot of tensions between Hindus and Muslims. The RSS (religious extremists in BJP party) claimed that, citing this incident, a lot of remaining Hindu temples in Pakistan and Bangladesh were destroyed. Pakistan's elected officials kept on bashing India for the Babri Maszid incident while not shedding any light on what is happening internally.
