[8Mbps in Germany. . .]
Okay, Bond, time to do some more sleuthing.
I just found this on the Siemens website, dated March 13,1997. Who else besides Amati has 8Mbps? And can we find a connection besides speed? Can you check your list of trials? Didn't we have Siemens on it? Know anyone attending? The show started yesterday and goes through March 19.
Now, where's my passport --

Fastest Internet access: Siemens introduces ADSL technology for the first time
Today's access technologies, such as analog modems and digital ISDN accesses, will not always be fast enough to cope with future professional telecommunication applications like telemedicine, teleworking, and telelearning. Nor are the transmission rates currently available sufficient in all cases for accessing the Internet, which has now become established as a multimedia platform. With the ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) technology introduced by Siemens at CeBIT '97, transmission rates of up to 8 Mbit/s can be achieved. This is 125 times faster than ISDN, and 200 times faster than analog modems.
The ADSL technology uses the same copper cable as the telephone access, without, however, burdening the switching systems. This is because the ADSL data stream is connected direct to the data network or Internet. Irrespective of the telephone traffic, therefore, data can be transmitted simultaneously at the highest possible speed.
Since October 1996, Siemens has been using a demonstration system to show the ADSL technology to operators of telecommunication networks from Germany, Florida, the Netherlands, Brazil, and South Africa, and to give them an idea of how it can be used.
The ADSL demonstrator was set up at CeBIT in Hanover and gave impressive proof of the advantages that ADSL technology has for professional users. Among other things, visitors were able to call up information from the Internet in real time, including high-resolution graphics and video clips.
