A dissenting voice: I find Chuzzlewit's posts to CL elevating, even beautiful, in some way; the way has to do with the display of faith in reason. And CL's replies are interesting and instructive in their own way; and that way has to do with the display of the human capacity for self delusion, and with its uninterest in reason where self-interest is detected. CL's posts are the opposite of elevating, they are rote and robotic; but believing that this species of irrationality is dangerous and spreading, I am glad enough to have it showcased here so nakedly.
