Feel the Energy: Novell, It's Stock and The Marketplace....
>>All the evidence points to:
a) if anything earnings will continue to surprise to the upside
b) SMART catching appliances could be a key revenue item for an upside earning surprise this year. But so far this is speculation.. Is Agranovich, who has a target of 40, the only one who is betting on this..?>>
Victor:
This tech/market downturn could be a godsend for Novell.
Better to be underestimated.
Eric must use this time to reinvigorate Novell's energy. Some suggestions:
1) Revamp it's marketing impage. Try some wild new things. GO!!
2) Embrace any/all forms of communication - inside/outside Novell - between employees, shareholders, customers. We're talking about Unified Messaging, VOIP - the fusion of voice, fax, paging, e-mail and soon video. A contact NOT made inside Novell is a contact potentiall lost to someone else.
If you are going to map the pure Internet business model, employees should be wired for sound - like being able to take calls from anyone, anytime, anywhere - with full control, flexibility, etc.
There is a HUGE market that's not being tapped right now in this area.
Eric, go visit the folks at I-Link just up the road. Get ALL your contact people UM numbers from I-Link. I have one. I can be reached anytime, anywhere in anyway - voice, fax, paging, e-mail along with an incredible range of services that would make your head spin. Get them to brand something that fits Novell. David Bradford is on I-Link's board. Some ex-Novell guys run the place. Do yourself a favor and make your company MORE CONNECTED and OPEN.
Or better yet and in addition to I-Link call Nextel and give ALL your people Nextel phones. Make sure these phones are part of an open network community solution so that poeple from other companies in the same region can all get on a Nextel dispatch network that NOVELL organizes. My company does this right now. We all use Nextel phones. Our clients talk to us on the same network. It's great. You wouldn't believe the energy that starts flowing when you provide INSTANT communication for INSTANT collaboration, feedback, etc. Do it now. GO!!
Gates put $600 million into Nextel. Nextel online communities will be one of the most viral, "out there" bed of innovation among some of the best and brightest out there. Plant your feet in this model. It's the Internet, stupid. GO!!
3) Move Novell's business model right into the minds of its customers. Give them the reins. Let them drive this thing: NDS, Smart caching, you name it. Tell them that these technologies will get them to mapping the Internet business model faster than anything else out there. Open up, share, collaborate. GO!!
4) Fire up Novell/NDS communities of all shapes, kinds, sizes in all kinds of ways. Be creative. Turn this over to your clients. Give leaders in the industry the option to build, maintain and grow their own verticle NDS-centric communities that talk, act and live this new model that has INDIVIDUALS collaborating inside/outside corporations, between and among the top consultants, across multiple domains and platforms.
5) Live, breath and die this revolutionary spirit that skaking the world. GO!!
6) Bring Bill Joy out of Sun's closet. Novell and Sun and AOL and others will have to collaborate more and more.
7) Take advantage of the reorganization and get inside Compaq's business model. Make them the NDS Poster Box vendor of choice. Let them set the standard.
Get on your soapbox, take risks, feel the energy.
The time is NOW!!
