Merrill Lynch's announcement of entering the fray of on-line trading has the whole financial sector down. Everyone is worried about increasing competition from on-line trading, cutting into their core business and reducing margins.

It is my opinion, that all the major brokerage houses will have to follow suit which will increase competition amongst all the on-line trading companies. This will will mainly hurt the Merrill's of the world. They will be cannibalizing their own customers to an extent, while the existing on-line trading companies will continue to prosper and benefit from their already established business model and being ahead of the curve. (IMHO,FWIW) Still long and holding.

PS. The interest rate bias is a problem, too!!!
