I wasn't the one who brought up the issue of multiple banks but IF you are using them then RamBus will reduce the pincount.

A few bucks is a BIG deal. Don't forget the extra pads on the die as well. You may have to grow the die just to accommodate the pads. At test you're going to have to buy testers with all those extra channels as well. The MB will have lots more traces. The cost adds up.
